Ross 1905 Model R Sporting Rifle, NSNV, .303 cal., 26'' barrel, blue finish, checkered walnut stock, with checkered wooden butt and solid lug bolt. Three-leaf Express rear sight is marked 100/300/500. Left side flat of receiver is marked ''Ross Rifle Co. Quebec, Canada. 1905/Patented''. It is interesting to note that E.C. Crosman writing in a 1909 article of ''Arms and the Man'' called Sir Frederic Ross the world's foremost authority on firearms and ammunition. Although Ross rifles have not been mfg'd since 1916, it was very surprising in 1954 when the Russians startled us by winning the world's shooting championship in Caracas using the Ross rifle rebarreled to 7.62x54R. Condition is about good to very good retaining approx. 60% thinning and toning blue. Stock shows moderate use with general overall flattening to checks, scuffs, scratches and dings. Action is silky smooth, bore shows well-defined rifling with light frosting in the grooves. Est.: $500-$750.
