Rosemarie Pierer, the Grande Dame of photography of the sixties from Hamburg traveled a lot around the globe where she captured her impressions with the camera. This photograph shows the breath-taking view from Cerro San Cristobal in Chile. In the foreground is a parking beetle with two travelling women enjoying the view over the spacious valley that partially disappears in thick banks of fog.



The photograph is verso inscribed in ballpen ‘Santiago de Chile’ and in pencil ‘Blick vom Cerro San Cristobal’. It also bears copyright and photographer’s stamp verso. The photograph is in good optical condition. There are slight traces of age and wear, such as handling creases, marginal wear and scratches. On the lower left is a tear of ca. 0.3 cm length. The dimensions are 29.4 x 24.2 cm.



Rosemarie Pierer (1918-2012)

The German Photographer Rosemarie Pierer was born in Bernburg, but moved to Hamburg in 1949, where she founded her own studio. The famous photograph and model Inge Schönthal, later Feltrinelli, was trained by the Grande Dame of German photography in the 1950s. Pierer worked for the ‘Thalia-Theater’ and for many different companies, such as Beiersdorf, Deutsche Airbus, Philips, Chamber of Commerce in Hamburg, Maico. In her last years she concentrated again on portrait-photographs, among others Architect Hadi Teherani and former chancellor Helmut Schmidt. (tm)
