<td width="100%">
This remarkable Rosewood Tilt-Top table is a
wonderful example of the master
craftmanship last seen in Regency England.
The quality suggests that it was a custom
piece made for a stately home.
Unlike others dating from the same period,
(c1835) the top is made of three solid (one
inch thick) planks of rosewood rather than the
less expensive veneer applied over a
mahogany base. The top is wood pegged to
the apron rather than screwed together as
found in later examples. The tripod legs are
also carved from solid rosewood. Brass
casters and tilt hardware are original to the
piece. Some minor maintenance has been
performed to the saddle(tilt) of the base. The
finish is original throughout beneath
rejuvenated french polish.
