Rosemarie Pierer, the Grande Dame of photography, was regarded a pioneer of multi vision in the fifties. At the young age of eight it was her biggest wish to get her own camera. Pierer is known for her photographs that are beautiful in the combination of highest technical standards with artful composition. Here depicted is Mexico City at night with the view of the Paseo de la Reforma, the artery of the metropolis in eastern-western direction.



The photograph is inscribed typographically verso ‘Mexico City, Blick auf Paseo de la Reforma’, in ballpen ‘Mexico’ and in pencil ‘F’. Verso are two copyright stamps Rosemarie Pierer. The photograph shows marginal wear, handling creases, scratches and abrasion in the middle. The dimensions are 25.6 x 24.3 cm.



Rosemarie Pierer (1918-2012)

The German Photographer Rosemarie Pierer was born in Bernburg, but moved to Hamburg in 1949, where she founded her own studio. The famous photograph and model Inge Schönthal, later Feltrinelli, was trained by the Grande Dame of German photography in the 1950s. Pierer worked for the ‘Thalia-Theater’ and for many different companies, such as Beiersdorf, Deutsche Airbus, Philips, Chamber of Commerce in Hamburg, Maico. In her last years she concentrated again on portrait-photographs, among others Architect Hadi Teherani and former chancellor Helmut Schmidt. (tm)
