Rope (Warner Brothers, R-1950s). Belgian Poster (14 X Rope (Warner Brothers, R-1950s).
Rope (Warner Brothers, R-1950s). Belgian (14" X 19"). Alfred Hitchcock's noble failure of an experiment still manages to pack a few punches. The film, shot in what appears to be one continuous take, proves the value of a good editor. In roles originally meant for Cary Grant and Montgomery Clift, Jimmy Stewart and John Dall spar about the meaning of Nietzsche's man and superman. Unaware that Dall and Farley Granger have murdered a friend to prove their superiority, James Stewart has to sift through the clues and hints that they drop in order to expose the killers. This reissue Belgian poster has been mounted on linen to stabilize it, but has not had any restoration. There is a corner chip with a tape mark, wrinkling and edge tears. The top imprint area has been trimmed. This is a fantastic poster for fans of Alfred Hitchcock, as it is one of the only ones we've ever seen actually depict the legendary director. Not only that, but the poster uses a dry sense of humor, as Hitch is seen rubbing his neck at the thought of being hung by the neck until he's dead, dead, dead! Fine- on Linen.
