Roosevelt & Fairbanks: Wooden Inaugural Plank
Roosevelt & Fairbanks: Unique Wooden Plank from the Inaugural Ballroom. Many of the ceremonial traditions surrounding the inauguration of a U.S. president were established by George Washington. One of these is an Inaugural Ball that, in 1905, was held at the Pension Building in Washington. Erected to serve the needs of the Union veterans of the Civil War, the Pension Building first housed the Inaugural Ball in 1885 for Grover Cleveland even though the building was not yet complete. This present item is a fabulous and interesting souvenir of the presidential ball that took place there honoring Theodore Roosevelt and Charles W. Fairbanks. A piece of wood 8.25" x 4" x .75" thick with rounded sides and the following painted on the top in black: "Roosevelt and Fairbanks / March 5th, 1905 / Wood from Inauguration Ball Room - Pension Bureau / G." Excellent condition save for one original nail hole and a bit of edge roughness on both ends. The collecting of inaugural memorabilia is a very active specialty and this interesting piece should generate strong competitive bidding.

Shipping: Small Collectibles (view shipping information)
