ALS signed “Dutch,” one page, 6.5 x 4.25, personal letterhead, September 10, 1991. Letter to his longtime friend Lydia ‘Hup’ MacArthur. In full: “I understand that Sunday is your 98th Birthday celebration. Nancy & I hope that your birthday is everything you could wish for—and more! May every happiness be yours on your special day & always. Our thoughts & best wishes are with you as you celebrate. Happy Birthday & God bless you. With love—on this 59th anniversary of your 39th Birthday.” In fine condition, with a couple spots of trivial soiling, and a brush to a single letter of text. Lydia Hupfer “Hup” MacArthur was the widow of Pete MacArthur, program director of WOC in Davenport, Iowa. In 1932, MacArthur had given a then 21 year-old Reagan his first job as a sports announcer. They would remain friends until her passing at the age of 102 in 1995.
