In part: “I heard you had been in the office after my return and am sorry we missed connections. Evidently what happened and caused the mix-up in the outer office was my coming back to the office from a meeting in the Capitol bldg & ducking down the back elevator to make a meeting away from the office…I’m still as firmly convinced as ever that the rank & file of labor are not to be put in the same package with labors top brass. You ask what have I done with regard to the rank and file who voted for me and I’m afraid I can only point to what we’ve tried to do. My bill to give union members a secret ballot lies buried in a committee on a straight party line vote. Every Rep. on the committee voted for the bill & every Dem. against. They still out number us. This has happened to other measures. In fact I have learned our opposition sent out an order to let no labor legislation out of committee. I have no intention of suffering in silence. When the people will be told of these measures that were defeated on a partisan basis and they will be told that I’ll continue to present them until they are passed.” In fine condition.
