DS, nine pages, 8.5 x 11, January 16, 1952. Records of the meetings of the Motion Picture Industry Council, on which Reagan served as secretary. These are the minutes of a meeting of the MPIC covering the issue of Communist infiltration of the film industry. In part: “The Council then turned its attention to problems stemming from charges of Communism within the industry. The Chairman called upon Mr. Lessing, who introduced Mr. Stanley Kramer. Mr. Kramer outlined the circumstances of his libel suit against the Wage Earners Committee; pictured the difficulties of the producer who wishes to avoid employing Communists or pro-Communists but who lacks what he described as a “yardstick” which would provide protection against attack, and then answered numerous questions. Mr. John Ford indicated that Mr. Kramer could count upon him as a witness if he desired to have Mr. Ford testify on his behalf. After extended discussion covering many facets of the problem… the Chairman designated a sub-committee… to draw up a statement of the MPIC’s position, which subsequently was… approved as follows: ‘The Motion Picture Industry Council commends Stanley Kramer for his courageous stand in instituting a libel suit against the Wage Earners Committee for the malicious and unfounded picketing of his picture ‘Death of a Salesman’ and pledge to him our complete support in the action he has taken.’” Minutes are housed in an original heavy hard bound binder embossed in gilt "Motion Picture Industry Council Minute Book.” In fine condition.
