ALS as president signed “Dutch,” one page, 5.75 x 3.75, White House letterhead, August 2, 1988. Letter to his long-time friend Lydia “Hup” MacArthur. In full: “I’ve just sent a note to Myrtle. I hope I have the right address ‘Polk City Manor.’ I used my recent visit to WOC’s new studio in Davenport as my excuse for writing–the memories & all. It does seem terrible to think of her as being down & not the life of the party. I’m glad to hear you are well. Give Dottie my very best regards. Nancy sends her greetings to you.” In fine condition. Lydia Hupfer ‘Hup’ MacArthur was the widow of Pete MacArthur, program director of WOC in Davenport, Iowa. In 1932, MacArthur had given a then 21-year-old Reagan his first job as a sports announcer. They would remain friends until her passing at the age of 102 in 1995. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Reagan’s hand.
