TLS as president signed “Dutch,” one page, 6.75 x 9, White House letterhead, January 10, 1984. Letter to longtime friend Lydia ‘Hup’ MacArthur. In part: “We had a pleasant few days in California and, as always, found California is not an easy place to leave. But here we are back in Washington and counting the days until we can manage another weekend or so out there. I won’t say take care of yourself because it sounds like you are doing that.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Lydia Hupfer ‘Hup’ MacArthur was the widow of Pete MacArthur, program director of WOC in Davenport, Iowa. In 1932, MacArthur had given a then 21 year-old Reagan his first job as a sports announcer. They would remain friends until her passing at the age of 102 in 1995.
