Christmas card from 1984, signed inside as president, “Dutch,” measuring 5.25 x 7.75 closed, with a color image of an artist’s portrait of the front of the snow-covered White House, with a single pair of footprints leading to the door. Right inside panel bears a pre-printed message reading, “The President and Mrs. Reagan extend to you their warmest holiday greetings and best wishes for the new year.” On the left inside panel Reagan writes, “Dear Hup, Merry Christmas!! And Happy New Year!! It’s that time again & Nancy & I wish you all the best. Love, Dutch.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Reagan’s hand. An uncommon format for a Reagan handwritten letter. Lydia Hupfer ‘Hup’ MacArthur was the widow of Pete MacArthur, program director of WOC in Davenport, Iowa. In 1932, MacArthur had given a then 21 year-old Reagan his first job as a sports announcer. They would remain friends until her passing at the age of 102 in 1995.
