Ronald Reagan Signed Speech 1959
Ronald Reagan "Business, Ballots, and Bureaus" Speech Signed with the inscription "Thanks for your kind letter. I spoke from notes on TV but it is, in the main, the basis of my remarks. Ronald Reagan", twelve pages, 8.5" x 11", mimeographed. In the speech, delivered on May 6, 1959, Reagan sounded many of the same themes that he would draw upon as president. He assailed big government programs, including attempts to "socialize medicine," the progressive income tax, and even Social Security. He complained about the growing complexity of the tax code, noting how it had increased from "thirty-one words to four hundred and forty thousand words." And he criticized the permanent bureaucracy that was "beyond the reach of any ballot." The speech is noteworthy in that it identifies the socialist threat as both an external and internal enemy. Reagan noted that in many cases people in government were well meaning, but "aren't we justified in suspecting that there are those who have fostered the growth of government by deliberate intent and design?" Interesting content. Staple holes at the top with folds, else very fine condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
