FINAL AUCTION RECORD The Auctioneer’s podium notes serve as the final, legally binding record of the auction results, superseding any electronic bidding records. See Terms and Conditions
There are three Roman prostitute rings and two tokens in this lot. There are two tokens, bright metal. The obverse sides depict sexual preferences. The reverse side with a denomination of "X" and "111" on the other; size 21 mm and 22 mm that are die stamped. A date of make would be suspect due to the technology used. The rings are identified by shape and size. A bronze ring with a projection imitating a round cut gemstone is sized at US 6. A bronze ring with a projection imitating a four sided mound and is sized at US 4.75. A bronze ring with a projection imitating a sea shell is sized at US 2.75. Each ring is accompanied by a COA with the signature recognized as that of William Fagan of Faganarms, however, his company letterhead is not present. The collecting of prostitute rings is speculative, interesting and not an exacting science. The use of base metals and noble metals denoted wealth and status, then, as it does today. Even if these rings do not fit your hand, they can be worn on a necklace. The careful observer would certainly need to know more about your jewelry, and explanations are left to the wearer's imagination. Please see photos for details.
