At auction is a rare "Roman Oil Lamp" circa 100A.D. to 300 A.D. This exceptional lamp is from our private collection and its original provenance is from Lebanon. This clay mold, pear shaped lamp features a handle or "ansa", fill hole and a nozzle with remnants of carbon deposit. The outer top portion of the lamp is adorned with beautiful grape clusters. Symbolic to bountiful harvests, grapes were also associated with wine and the Roman god Bacchus. On the reverse is a circular concave base. This quality specimen in excellent condition.
