Roman Egypt, c.2nd Century AD. Painted wood sarcophagus for a Corn-Osiris with a falcon head, details in black including the facial markings, the striped head-dress and broad collar. Down the front are two columns of hieroglyphic text gives praises to Osiris on behalf of his resurrection. Inside is a mummified effigy of Osiris completed with a gilt silver mask. L: 60cm / 23.5".
