For your consideration is an ancient oil lamp from the Roman Byzantine period. This oil lamp is made of burnt clay and was unearthed in Jerusalem. These oil lamps were an indispensable object in the every day household. It accompanied sacrificial offerings and religious ceremonies. The inscribed plate on the upper lid is made of copper mined out of King Solomon's mines. The small green glass ring holding the scroll was made in the small city of Hebron. The olive wood box was made from the trees overlooking the city. Olive wood is renowned for its gorgeous blend of colors and shades. The olivewood box measures 6" x 4.5" x 2.75".
