For your consideration is an ancient Roman Byzantine discus oil lamp circa 5th-6th Century AD. This clay oil lamp has a discoid body, stub nozzle, and a textured band to the discus. This ancient clay lamp includes a spout and fill hole, as well as tooling design that has faded with age and use yet appears to be a braided pattern consistent to the Byzantine period. It shows an orange clay color with some white chalkiness, and light burn marks, from age and use. The lamp measures approximately 3" in diameter and 1" tall.
