Remarkable handwritten petition addressed to Bob Wooler of the Cavern Club, requesting that he schedule a performance for the Mindbenders, one page (with an additional nine pages of signatures), each 8 x 10, October 1964. The petition features an impressive total of 428 signatures, and is highlighted by a full set of bold signatures from the Rolling Stones: Bill Wyman, Charlie Watts, Keith Richard, Mick Jagger, and Brian Jones, with an unknown signature below. The petition, in part: “We hadn’t seen the Mindbenders at the Cavern for ages & thought it about time we did; so we started a petition & found that 428 people agreed with us. But you announced on Thursday that the boys were appearing here soon & we realized that our petition was now worthless. However we are still giving it to you as we just couldn’t bear to feel that our work was all for nothing. As well as Cavern regulars some famous people have signed & if you look through this you fill find the signature of the following:—The Stones, Earl Preston, Kris Ryan, Jud Lander (Hideaways), (Denny Flyn). P. S. We didn’t forge the Stones signatures. We asked them to sign & they did.” Various pages of the petition show staining and old tape remnants, but the Stones-signed page itself is unaffected and in fine condition. Consignor notes that this petition originates from the collection of former Cavern Club compere Bob Wooler, a pivotal figure in the Merseyside music scene of the early sixties. An unusual format with a bold cast of signatures.
