DS, four pages, 8.5 x 11, August 2, 1978. The agreement between Michael P. Jagger and Marsha Hunt Ratledge regarding the care of their daughter Karis Hunt Ratledge. The nine point document reads, in part: “Neither the existence nor contents of this document will be made known to the court, the press or any person other than our respective clients and Mr. Jagger’s advisers…Mr. Jagger shall pay for the benefit and care of Karis Hunt Ratledge the sum of Three Thousand Dollars ($3000.000) by check…You and Mrs. Ratledge agree that the fact of this payment and the amount of the payment shall not be disclosed to any other person except as set forth in this agreement…The payment by Mr. Jagger…is solely for the purpose of avoiding the expense and publicity of a hearing…In the event the parties are unable to reach an agreement of compromise, the Three Thousand Dollars…being paid by Mr. Jagger shall be credited against any award…There shall be no publicity or public or private statement made by or on behalf of any party or attorney to any other person except by Mr. Jagger.” Signed on the last page in green ink by Jagger, as well as Marsha Ratledge. In fine condition, with expected folds, several creases, and staple to top left.
An amazing document pertaining to Jagger, the woman who inspired the song “Brown Sugar,” and the child that the couple had together! Hunt said that she met Jagger and the other members of the Rolling Stones around 1969 when she was asked to pose for an ad for the single “Honkey Tonk Women.” Although she turned down the offer, she and Jagger began an affair that resulted in the November 1970 birth of their daughter. Their relationship also inspired the single “Brown Sugar” from the 1971 album Sticky Fingers. Two years after their daughter’s birth, Hunt filed a lawsuit asking Jagger for child support payments. The couple settled out of court, and out of the media spotlight, with this document representing that agreement. Incidentally, although Jagger had referred to the lawsuit as “silly” prior to reaching an agreement, he continues to share a familial bond with his daughter and has participated in her various life events including Yale graduation, marriage, and birth of his grandchild. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RRAuction COA.
