ALS in French, signed “Garros,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 6 x 7.75, May 25, 1918. Handwritten letter of thanks and condolences, in part (loosely translated): "I was very touched by the note you wrote to me on my return, and I wish to take part in your recent misfortune. I said how much you trusted your dear little wife to know in America you had left me for her. You are a good husband and you should have had a happy household. Poor old man!" In fine condition, with light soiling and intersecting folds. A rare missive from the legendary ace that's dated to a little over four months before he was shot down and killed near Vouziers, Ardennes.
