A closely related composition by Savery, dated 1622, can be found at the Herzog Anton-Ulrich Museum. Braunschweig. A renowned painter of landscapes, animals, and floral still lifes, Emperor Rudolf II. Dutch court painter shows a close relationship with the sylvan landscape of the Flemish artists Jan Brueghel and Gillis van Coninxloo, with their primeval trees and fantastic ruins. Savery's favourite themes included depictions of Paradise, Noah's Ark, the Deluge, and Orpheus among the beast.
