Sabin 72524. One of the earliest and best histories of the Amazon region of South America. Written by the Jesuit Manual Rodriguez, the text contains a history of all the expeditions along the river through the author's lifetime, and draws from several first-hand accounts, including Orellana's relation that gave rise to the myth of the Amazon warrior, and resulted in the river, previously known as El Maranon, being named Amazon. A basic book for the history of South America, and quite rare. See illustration.
