Inscribed on reverse: "A scene from the 9th-10th century west, or tall cross, at
Monasterboice, Co. Louth. Carved of sandstone with a granite head, the scene
depicts "the protection of innocence", or "the three children in the fiery
furnace". Roddy Moynihan came to painting as a result of research undertaken for
a Masters Degree in Celtic Archaeology. He studied under Kenneth Webb and Clare
Cryan, and has exhibited for the past ten years throughout Dublin, Wicklow and
Meath.
