J. B. Sturtevant, better known as Rocky Mountain Joe, collection. Part 1 is a photo album of 17 photos. They include Blanche Depay Sturtevant in her Western gear wielding a rifle, the engine that first climbed Pike's Peak, broken pipe lien with frozen water, Chautaugua mine and Green Mountain, Boulder Falls, unidentified mine. Part two revolves around a trip he took with his friend Ida Roebuck up the Arapahoes. Includes two photos 7 1/2 x 5" of Ms Roebuck. One is of her at the Fern Bed. There is also a hand written poem from Rocky Mountain Joe to Ida Roebuck that includes one of the ferns still preserved over 100 years ago.

Joe took up photography in 1884. His enthusiasm for the art soon made him Boulder’s most prolific photographer. His images, which are now in libraries and museums, chronicle the development of the city and outlying regions. Rocky Mountain Joe was reportedly a character. He was a teller of tall tales and his dress preference was buckskins, the garb of his Indian scouting days.
