Please read all of the Terms and Conditions of this auction prior to bidding.
Rock Island Railroad Reverse Glass Sign. This is the more rare version of the "8 footer" without the cowboy and the cattle. The train itself is larger and more forward in the painting. This sign was made by an artist who worked for Western Sandblasting Company, Chicago, IL. in 1908. The artist used mother-of-pearl to construct the train and the rail cars. There were only 50 of these so called "8 footers" made and we only know of 21 that have survived at this point in time. It has some minor mother-of-pearl lifting and some inpainting throughout the sky. Unfortunately, the mountail with the snow on it has been painted over with blue paint as well. These later modifications can be repaired and the auctioneer will gladly work with the winning bidder to get the sign professionally restored back to original and preserved for the future. It is 98 1/2" X 23 1/2" overall ilncluding the frame.
