Rock Island Railroad Reverse Glass Sign. Made in 1890 by the very first artist employed by Rock Island to make reverse glass lamp shades for the pullman cars. This is said to be the first sign made for the railroad company and it eventually made its way to hang in their office building in Los Angeles, CA. Mr. Duff inherited it from his grandfather in 1958. It has been in the family for 85 years. His Grandfather worked for Rock Island Railroad as a boiler inspector in the 20's and 30's and was given the sign from a friend that worked in the office at that time. This sign is arguably the earliest and most important piece of advertising ever made for the prominent railroad company and is offered for sale for the first time in its history. Excellent Condition in the original frame. 54 X 43 inches.
