<B>Rock Island, IL</B></I> - $100 1882 Brown Back Fr. 525 <B>The Rock Island NB</B></I> Ch. # (M)1889<BR> <BR>We sold this note as part of the Walter Herget collection in January of 2003, where it was described as "A great high denomination Rock Island note which is the only $100 Brown Back known from the bank. Mr. Herget valued this note highly, and, considering the number of serious collectors in this area, it is likely to see considerable support this evening as well. Pen signed Fine-Very Fine, with a few tiny spots and one margin chip, none of which affect very much." In its last appearance, as lot 1527 of the 2006 CPMX auction, the tiny spots had "disappeared" and the margin chip had been repaired, neither of which was mentioned in the description. It then realized $12,000 on a $20,000-30,000 estimate.
