Manufactured in 1943 by Colt and later refurbished by the Rock Island Arsenal. Sections of the frame, barrel, slide and grip have been cut away to expose the inner workings of the pistol. This was done subsequent to the arsenal rebuild. The cut aways on the slide and barrel show how the barrel locks into position and how the round is chambered with the firing pin assembly exposed on either side and the left side of the chamber exposing the "COLT 45 AUTO" marking. Other cut-outs are at the bushing and ahead of the lug on the right side. The frame cuts are on the right side exposing the recoil spring, magazine side, and the function of the sear and safeties. Matching rectangular cut-outs are present in the right grip and the full blue magazine, showing the magazine spring. Oval cuts have been made in the grip safety and checkered mainspring housing, showing the operation of the mainspring. Seven inert cartridges deprimed with holes drilled through the casing are included with the pistol.
