British-Canadian poet and writer (1874-1958) known for his vivid descriptions of the Yukon territory during the Klondike gold rush. TLS, one page, 8.25 x 10.5, March 9, 1925. Written from Paris, France, a letter to Mr. Green, in full: "I thank you for your kind letter. I was greatly flattered and delighted to hear that eight of your pupils had chosen my humble self as an inspiration. Of course I feel horribly unworthy, but terribly honoured. I'm afraid that they might have done much better, and that I am an average sort of person who doesn't take anything seriously, least of all himself. However, I suppose that it's a man's work that really counts, and if your pupils put the best of themselves into their work, as I have always tried to do, they cannot go very far wrong. I think this is the only message I am capable of conveying and will let it go at that. I enclose a photograph, with sincere good wishes to all your protegees and my best hopes for their future welfare." In fine condition, with a rusty paperclip impression to the top edge. Accompanied by the referenced photograph, which bears a preprinted signature.
