Son of President Abraham Lincoln (1843–1926) who served as Secretary of War in the Garfield and Arthur administrations. ALS signed “Robert T. Lincoln,” one page, 5 x 8, War Department letterhead, July 2, 1883. Letter to Assistant Postmaster General Frank Hatton. In part: “I will take care of him, and will ask you to give the place in the city post office to Mr. John Paxton, who will present this letter to you.” In very good condition, with mild toning, a bit heavier to top left, intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, blue pencil notation along bottom edge, and light mirroring of ink.
