<B>Robert Todd Lincoln Collection.</B></I> This lot contains five Autograph Letters Signed and three Typed Letters Signed by Robert Todd Lincoln. Robert Todd Lincoln was the eldest son of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln, and the only one of the four boys to reach adulthood. He served in the Civil War and held the rank of captain and later he went on to serve several government positions such as Secretary of War and U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom. The items in this lot are as follows: The first ALS is signed "<I>Robert T. Lincoln.</B></I>" Two pages, 4.5" x 6.75, personal letterhead, Chicago, May 7th, 1896. The letter discusses fishing at Lake Eerie. <BR><BR>The second ALS is signed "<I>Robert T. Lincoln.</B></I>" Three pages, 4.5" x 6.75", Rye Beach, New Hampshire, July 24, 1894.Excellent Political content: In part, "<I>…In the absence of any incident we ought to have either Harrison or McKinley. There never was a better President than Mr. Harrison & if he wants it, the Country owes him a second term…</B></I>" <BR><BR>The third ALS is signed, "<I>Robert T. Lincoln.</B></I>" Four pages, 4.5" x 7", mourning stationery, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, December 26, 1890. Mentioning the death of his mother eight years before. <BR><BR>The fourth ALS is signed, "<I>Robert T. Lincoln.</B></I>" Four pages, 4.25" x 6.75", July 5, 1893, Little Boar's Head, New Hampshire. About Lincoln's lack of desire to hold any public office at the end of his life. <BR><BR>The fifth and final ALS is signed "<I>Robert T. Lincoln.</B></I>" Three pages, 4.5" x 6.75", Chicago, April 30, 1895. It reads in part, "<I>…As I have said to you, I am first for Mr. Harrison (who was defeated not worse than Cleveland) because he has demonstrated his commanding fitness for the position but whoever may be the man at the head of the ticket, it will not be myself…</B></I>" <BR><BR>The handwritten letters are all in very good condition overall; they have all been silked and trimmed slightly by a conservator. <BR><BR>The first TLS is signed "<I>Robert T. Lincoln.</B></I>" One page, 4.8" x 7.8", Pullman Palace Car Company Stationery, Chicago, December 16, 1898. The content expresses Lincoln's sympathies at the addressee's loss of his father. <BR><BR>The second TLS is signed, "<I>Robert T. Lincoln.</B></I>" One page, 4.75" x 7.25", Pullman Palace Car Company stationery, Chicago, December 23, 1897. The content is routine. <BR><BR>The third and final TLS is signed, "<I>Robert T. Lincoln.</B></I>" Two pages, 7" x 8.9", Manchester, Vermont, September 2, 1920. The letter discusses a letter which his mother had written in 1859 as well as his failure to pass the examinations for Harvard Law School the first time through. <BR><BR>The Typed Letters are in Very Good condition, albeit silked, and with some ink bleeding.
