Robert Todd Lincoln Autograph Letter Signed
Robert Todd Lincoln Autograph Letter Signed as Secretary of War "Robert T. Lincoln". Two pages, 4" x 6", on War Department letterhead, Washington, October 31, 1882, in ink, to Mrs. Frederick Frelinghuysen (wife of the Secretary of State). An interesting letter that apparently originated with a chance conversation in a railroad car regarding an unnamed West Point cadet whose mother wished him to be excused from attending chapel. It reads in part: "Referring to our conversation in the cars about a cadet whose mother does not wish him to attend the chapel at the military academy, I send you a copy of the rule on the subject...I have no doubt that Merritt Superintendent Wesley Merritt would accede to an application for his satisfactory reasons for not doing so." Robert Todd Lincoln (1843-1926) was the first son of Abraham Lincoln. The letter has uniformly toned with age with the usual fold creases but the ink is still bright and it is in overall very good condition.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
