ALS, in pencil, signed “Robert Stroud, 594,” one page, lightly-lined both sides, 8 x 10, Alcatraz, January 28, 1946. Letter to his sister Marie. In part: “You are right, this would be a very poor world if there were not people in it ready to help others. It is true that there are those who do not appreciate what one tries to do for them, but that is o.k. When I can do something for someone that he cannot do for himself, I never ask myself or care whether he will appreciate it or not, but that does not matter. I really do such things because I think I should, and that is all there is to it…Sometimes I have done things because of other people that have cost me a pretty high price, but I have never had any regrets.” Stroud has also added his full signature at the top of the letter, along with his Alcatraz address. In fine condition.
