TLS, two pages, 8.5 x 11, February 24, 1932. Written while imprisoned at Leavenworth Penitentiary, a letter to Fred E. Daw regarding the shipment of sick birds, in part (spelling and grammar retained): "You sent me six males and two hens beside the gift bird. Normally I would be enclined to call that even excepting for the green cock, but another factor has entered the equasion. I do not like to tell you this and I am sure that is going to make you feel badly, but you shipped me fevered birds…I did not notice when they came that the little hen with the spot on her face was not feeling well but thought she had got a cold in shipment and so gave them Iodide of Potassium in their drinking water…this morning I found that little bird dead…I do not expect any more deaths for I have put the whole flock on treatment…I am not beefing except on the loss of the hen, but I do wish that you had told me they had been exposed to the fever…On the other hand I am affraid that you not knowing this fever as I do may have serious losses. You had best put your entire flock on the treatment at once and keep them there for at least three weeks." Stroud signs at the conclusion in pencil and makes several handwritten corrections throughout the text. In very good to fine condition, with creasing, edge wear and chipping, and loss to the upper right corner of the second page barely affecting one word of text.
