<B>Robert Simson Autograph Letter Signed</B></I> "<I>Rob: Simson</B></I>" (1687-1768). Three pages, 7.25" x 9.25", Glasgow, June 11, 1760. Simson comments on another mathematician, discusses Euclid, and mentions his forthcoming edition of <I>Data,</B></I> in part: "<I>the Data will be longer than what we have in the former editions...the book shall be sold at 5 or 6 shillings, tho I should be a loser by it...</B></I>" A British mathematician and professor of mathematics, Simson is known for his criticisms and commentaries on the ancient geometers, specializing in Euclid. His <I>Euclid's Element</B></I> was long the standard Euclid text in England. The pedal line of a triangle is sometimes called the Simson line after him. Our research shows no record of a sale of any Simson autograph material in recent years. This is a special opportunity to own a content letter from a legendary geometer. Having a paper conservator repair the fold splits and clean the light soiling would make this letter worthy of display in any fine collection or museum. <BR><BR>Also included is a 1776-dated engraving of Simson in excellent condition.
