American soldier and inventor of military ordnance, most notably the Parrott rifle, an innovative rifled gun which was manufactured in several sizes. Parrott rifles were extensively employed in the American Civil War by both the Union and Confederate armies. ALS signed “R. P. Parrott,” one page, lightly-lined, 5 x 8, October 7, 1870. Letter to an associate. In part: “I have had your letter some days & as yet have not been able to advice you when the Foundry vessel would certainly be in New York…I trust the picture will get home safely, for your sake as well as my own and am very pleased the exhibition has turned oput so well.” Uniform shade of mild toning, several pencil notations to top edge, and a couple light brushes to signature, otherwise fine condition.
