Group of three stocks issued to or signed by Robert Morris, a key contributor to the new United States of America, one of the key financiers to the development of this new country, and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. 1) The first document is a Delaware and Schuylkill Canal Navigation Company stock issued to John Pugh on August 4, 1792. Certificate 1380. One share signed by Morris as president and Marshall as treasurer. Uncanceled, seal at left. Pugh served in the American Revolutionary War as a captain in the Pennsylvania militia. He engaged in agricultural and mercantile pursuits, and served as justice of the peace. He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1800 to 1804. Pugh was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Ninth and Tenth Congresses. 2) The second stock is a North American Land company stock certificate number 2000 for five shares issued October 15, 1795, signed by Robert Morris as president and James Marshall as Sec. un-canceled, not endorsed. A key here is that Robert Morris's signature which is bold and in thick ink is not crossed out or canceled. 3) The third document is a stock certificate issued to Robert Morris for one share of stock number 847 signed by Nicholson as president and illegible as treasurer on February 6, 1793. Seal at left, printed by Francis Bailey. The first two documents have no printer designation. This is a nice trio from one of America's founding fathers.
