Masterful original concept painting by acclaimed space artist Robert McCall for the 1979 Walt Disney science fiction film The Black Hole, accomplished in acrylic on a 47.5 x 35.5 sheet of masonite, signed in the lower right corner in black paint, “McCall, 76.” This gorgeously rendered work depicts the USS Cygnus, a massive long-lost spaceship, exiting an asteroid field with a smaller ship, the USS Palomino, in hot pursuit. This stunning deep-space action scene is expertly depicted by McCall, whose use of detail and shading brings forth a vivid chase through jagged, behemoth asteroids towards an unknown body of intense white light, ostensibly the film’s titular ‘black’ hole, which likewise appears to be pulling both rock and ship into its gravitational field. Framed without glass to a slightly larger size. In fine condition.
