Robert M.T. Hunter. Confederate Secreta
Robert M.T. Hunter. Confederate Secretary of State, expelled from Senate in 1861 for secessionist activity. A.L.S., May 13, 1848, 1 -1/4 pp., to Monroe R. Garnett, Virginia Congressman, later with Confederacy. Hunter urges Garnett to attend the Democratic Convention in Baltimore, where he will meet many with the same political principles, "states rights men." He considers Lewis Cass to have favorable chances. Signed "R.M.T. Hunter." Integral address-leaf, with second signature as free-frank. Very fine.
