Scottish essayist, novelist, and poet. Well-known for his adventure stories Kidnapped and Treasure Island, and for the startling tale of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Uncommon bank check, 8.25 x 3.25, filled out and signed by Stevenson, payable to Carlo Grassi for £7.8.6, December 31, 1886. In very good condition, with a central vertical fold, a thin ink cancellation line through portion of signature, two other vertical cancellation lines to body, light bank stamp over beginning of signature, and a bit of scattered mild toning. 1886 was an important year for Stevenson, as he wrote both Kidnapped and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, despite his declining health.
