Unusual and dramatic white marble mushroom cloud sculpture, entitled '''God's Wind' at Hiroshima?''. Sculpted by Captain Robert Alvin Lewis, co-pilot of the Enola Gay, which on 6 August 1945 dropped the atomic bomb code-named ''Little Boy'' on the city of Hiroshima. Lewis was soon thereafter thrust into the public spotlight for his now famous logbook entry, reading, ''My God, what have we done?'' In 1970, still haunted by the experience, Lewis sculpted a white marble representation of the destructive blast. Lewis etched both the title, '''God's Wind' at Hiroshima?'' and his signature, ''R.A. Lewis / 1970'' on the sculpture's rear face, with the question mark significantly larger than the rest of the title, suggesting Lewis' ambivalence over what most consider a necessary evil to end World War II. Sculpture measures 11'' x 16'' and weighs a substantial 53.5 lbs. Overall near fine condition. Accompanied by paperwork documenting Lewis' artistic career and this mushroom cloud sculpture, the only such sculpture that Lewis created.
