This portrait by Robert Lebeck was taken in 1967 and depicts a group of people on a tree in New York’s Central Park. It is the print number 8 from a limited edition of 100 from 2010. Robert Lebeck belongs to the most well-known German photo reporters who has portrayed numerous personalities.



A label by Edition Lumas, signed ‘Robert Lebeck’ is enclosed. The photograph is verso mounted reversible on the upper edge under a mat. It is in very good condition with minimal traces of wear. The image size is 30 x 45 cm and the dimensions of the sheet are 34 x 49 cm. The dimensions of the mat are 56,5 x 71,5 cm.



Robert Lebeck (1929-2014)

Born in Berlin in 1929, Robert Lebeck studied in Zurich and New and is self-educated in the field of photography. From 1952 onwards he worked as a photojournalist for various newspapers and magazines and for a year he was chief editor at GEO magazine. At a later stage he worked for the German magazine ‘Stern’ once again. Lebeck gained international fame in 1960 with the series of photographs ‘Africa in the Year Zero’, documenting the independence of the Congo. The photographer was also a major collector of 19th century photographs, part of which are located at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, Germany. In 2001 Robert Lebeck returned to Berlin where he lived and worked until his death. (tm)
