American artist (1928–2018) associated with the pop art movement, known for his iconic "LOVE" design. ALS signed “R. Indiana,” one page, 5.75 x 7.75, blindstamped personal letterhead, February 19, 1974. Letter to painter Merv Slotnick, in full: "I think it more appropriate if I signed my own. You may have some difficulty with those other guys…P.S. Your choice of stamps is awful." In fine condition. Accompanied by a letter from Slotnick, noting that had contacted several artists and museum officials about speaking at an annual art teachers' conference. Indiana's jab at the stamp used in the initial correspondence seems to be a reference to the widely distributed "LOVE" stamp issued by the USPS a year earlier in 1973.
