Robert Havell, ?Cat Birds?, wildlife, print, 20th century realist.

Born in Reading, England, Robert Havell earned a distinguished reputation for his aquatint engraving of all but the first 10 plates of John James Audubon's "Birds of America." He first visited Audubon in 1839 in New York City and traveled and sketched the countryside in a homemade horse-drawn trailer.
His travel-weary wife established a house for the family in Ossining on the Hudson River, and he later moved to Tarrytown, living there from 1857 to his death in 1878. He traveled frequently, sketching and taking notes and then doing studio land-townscapes in oil and watercolor as well as making engravings, the later which was his favorite medium

Harvell captures the true image of the birds in ?Cat Birds?, and gives great detail in every feather. The use of colors is done in such a way that the birds look they are real. His realistic images of the Cat Bird is most admirably done right down to the finite details of how they truly look. This very desirable piece is complimented by a tradition golden frame and is matted in green that blends in with the leaves. The painting measures a total of 15.5?x 12.5?. The use of hues in this painting, bring together an excellent composition. This painting would be a great addition to any art enthusiast?s collection and is remarkably priced.
