Robert Gould - "Walnut Street Graveyard" Sketch Original Art (1977). "I live a life of contemplation and assessment and illusion. Mostly illusion. I am a romantic and an idealist. My love and desire for beauty shapes my life entirely..." claims fine artist Robert Gould, describing his art. Gould is a mythic artist whose work is inspired by the Romantic art of nineteenth-century England, particularly the mystic symbolism of painter Sir Edward Burne-Jones. He made his name with a series of ground-breaking covers for Michael Moorcock's fiction, and for several years after, his paintings could be found gracing fine novels by Louise Cooper, Mujica Lainez, and many others. In Excellent condition, this delicate sketch is rendered in pencil on a sheet of 10" x 12.5" sketch paper. Its melancholy approach and subject matter is aptly described in Gould's own words: "I live amid old tales of Love and Tragedy, and with each day find them to be more true. There is no 'happily ever after,' only dissolution and legend." From the collection of Richard and Wendy Pini. Richard says: "Bob Gould's artwork comes from another era. We knew him briefly via a project in the 1970s for Blue Star Books that involved reprinting some of the Elric material by Michael Moorcock. He also produced a portfolio of wonderfully ethereal drawings based on 'Peter Pan'. This pencil drawing is a little jewel, delicate and detailed."
