Robert F. Kennedy: Signed The Enemy Within
Robert F. Kennedy: Signed The Enemy Within. (New York: Harper & Brothers, 1960), 338 pages, olive green boards with gilt spine lettering, 8vo (5.75" x 8.5"), no dust jacket, clear plastic protective cover, housed in a fine custom green quarter leather slipcase with marbled paper boards, gilt spine lettering, and five raised spine bands. Signed "Best Wishes, Robert F. Kennedy" on the front free endpaper. The Enemy Within, subtitled in later editions as The McClellan Committee's Crusade Against Jimmy Hoffa and Corrupt Labor Unions, is RFK's account of the McClellan Committee's investigation of Hoffa and the Unions in the late 1950s. At the time, Kennedy was chief counsel of the Senate Labor Rackets Committee, better known as the McClellan Committee, and he was on a personal mission to bring down Hoffa, Johnny Dio, and any other Teamsters who might get in his way. Kennedy hated corruption anywhere at any level, and he was determined to "get Hoffa." The Enemy Within further soured an already bitter acrimony that both Kennedy and Hoffa felt for each other. But Kennedy's goal was noble and clear, and stated boldly at the end of Chapter 12 of this book where he writes, "The point I want to make is this: If we do not on a national scale attack organized crime with weapons and techniques as effective as their own, they will destroy us." The book presented here is in good condition, with minor shelf wear, some sunning to the spine, and slight fading of the spine lettering. The interior shows mild foxing of the endpapers, but the text is largely clean and the binding sound. A scarce chance to acquire a signed RFK book.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
