American explorer (1856–1920) best known for his claim as the first man to reach the North Pole. Booklet entitled ‘Manual Alphabet,’ 4.25 x 6.75, 15 pages, published by William B. Swett, signed diagonally on the front cover in fountain “R. E. Peary” and again in the same manner on the first page. Mild toning and soiling to the front and back cover with much light toning to the pages, otherwise fine condition. According to the consignor, this item originates from Peary’s estate.
