Robert E Lee The Soldier By Sir Frederick Maurice
In this lot is a 1976 printing of “Robert E. Lee the Soldier” by Major-General Sir Frederick Maurice, written in 1925. This is an acute and perceptive analysis and assessment of Lee the solider. Maurice states, "This is neither a life of Lee nor a history of the Civil War of 1861-65. It is an appreciation of Lee's generalship." Major-General Sir Frederick Barton Maurice, 1st Baronet, GCB, GCMG, GCVO, DSO (19 January 1871 – 19 May 1951) was a British Army officer, military correspondent, writer, and academic. During the First World War, he was forced to retire in May 1918 after writing a letter to The Times criticizing Prime Minister David Lloyd George for making misleading statements about the strength of British forces on the Western Front. He also founded the British Legion in 1920 and served as its president from 1932 to 1947. This book has its dust jacket intact and is in good condition, showing minor wear to the dust jacket. The book measures 9 1/4" X 6 1/4" X 1 1/2".
