Robert E. Lee Dance Card, 1876 Robert E. Lee Dance Card,
Robert E. Lee Dance Card, 4.5" x 3.25" unfolded, 1876, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. This uninscribed dance card was either never used or belonged to an unnoticed wallflower. Either way, it is a memento of the Lee Monument fund-raising ball which was held at the Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia during Reconstruction's waning days. The monument today proudly dominates Richmond's Monument Avenue. Tipped into the inside front of the card is a CDV-style 1862 likeness of General Lee in full Confederate uniform. The opposing panel is printed with blank spaces for the names of a dozen dance partners. A thin cord, approximately 6.0" long, is affixed to the piece. Light browning, a crease along the left edge of Lee's image not affecting the portrait. Very Good condition. In gilt frame, 7.5" x 8.5".

Important notice:</
